As a trombonist, conductor, composer, arranger, and educator, Robert Bennett has been making contributions to the music profession for over a decade. He directs, composes, and arranges for his own big band, the Bob Bennett Big Band, which is compromised of leading New York City jazz artists. He is also Director of Bands at South Orangetown Middle School where he teaches woodwind, brass, and percussion lessons and directs the 7th and 8th grade Concert Band, 6th grade Symphonic Band, and Jazz Ensemble. He previously was the music teacher at Van Nest Academy in the Bronx for 5 years and been on the music faculty of The Master’s School. As a trombonist, in addition to his own big band/jazz combo, he is principal trombonist of the Chappaqua Orchestra, a member of the Erica Seguine/Shannon Baker Jazz Orchestra and Westchester Symphonic Winds, and freelances throughout the greater New York region. He owns a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media from the Eastman School of Music where he performed with the famed Eastman Wind Ensemble, and owns a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. He currently resides in Congers, NY with his wife Briana and their two children, Parker and Maya.
